Publisher's description of LimeWire X
LimeWire lets users share and search for all types of computer files, including movies, pictures, games, and text documents. Other features include dynamic querying, push-proxy support for connecting through firewalls, the ability to preview files while downloading, advanced techniques for locating rare files, and an extremely intuitive user interface.

Editor's review of LimeWire X
4.0 stars
- "One sweet lime"
From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications for Mac. The latest version further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Version: LimeWire X 4.18.8
Pros: It works great, as long as you know what to watch out for. When downloading songs, make sure the song has a BitRate next to it, otherwise there's a 90% change it's a virus. If you're not paying attention, you deserve a virus infection on your PC.
Cons: Since the average person has no observational skills, it is easy for the average user to get a virus infection. They really need to have better way so discerning which files are bad and which files are good.
Summary: It seems like a majority of the people that gave the bad reviews are half-retarded monkeys. Since you can't figure things out I will summarize what to watch out for:
1) When downloading music, make sure that there is a BitRate listed for ... read more >> -

Version: LimeWire X 4.18.8
Pros: The new Limewire Alpha is out right now that makes it like a browser window with some very cool features & totally unLimewire where you also have more control over the features...Limewire is going Social...& off to a good start with Alpha...
Cons: I've had Lime off & on like everyone else...Its been a rollercoaster ride with dogging viruses with the Basic...Not getting enough quality in mp3's or videos & you never download anything else from LW..Its sure to have trouble on it...
Summary: The New Alpha is a new Experience I hope...I usually in the past have downloaded LW to get mp3's & then dumped it because of the memory it would eat up & at times I seemed to lose Mp3's for no apparent reason..The file would be there but it ... read more >>

Version: LimeWire X 4.18.8
Pros: Nothing at all
Cons: Won't play MP3s
Summary: I was able to download the application, installed it, connected to the network, found music I wanted, downloaded the MP3 files, but the FILES WON'T PLAY! With the Limewire player, with iTunes, it doesn't matter -- they just sit there doing nothing. ... read more >>

Version: LimeWire X 4.18.8
"Great for music & video only!"
Pros: Huge peer base - you can literally find anything you could imagine. No song is impossible.
Cons: Mega viruses! DO NOT DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE!! I had to reinstall my OS twice because of software I downloaded from Limewire that was riddled with bugs.
Summary: I love the product and will continue to use it, but only for music, porn and video. I've been a Limewire user for over 6 years now and have seen the best and the worst this program has to offer. It's still the best out there. If you need software, e... read more >>
